Urology & Kidney

Our urologists are specialists who provide care through every stage of adult life: Whatever you age, a problem with the male or female urinary tract can happen to anyone.

Because Urology Services treats an extraordinary range of clinical problems – erectile dysfunction, urinary incontinence, congenital abnormalities, urinary tract stones and diseases of the kidney, prostate, ureters, bladder and adrenal glands – proper care demands knowledge of multiple medical specialties and the latest technology.
If your treatment includes surgery, we’ll use minimally invasive procedures whenever possible. The Hospital of Central Connecticut, since 2010, has used the da Vinci Surgical System in highly precise robotics-assisted surgery that uses smaller incisions associated with minimal scarring. We now have two da Vinci robots for procedures that, studies have shown, reduce hospital stays, increase recovery times and a diminish the need for narcotic pain medications
Patients also benefit from our affiliation with Hartford Hospital’s Tallwood Urology and Kidney Institute, which has assembled six disease-management teams — urologic oncology, kidney stones, pelvic health, men’s health, general urology and chronic kidney disease — for improved coordination of care and consistency of clinical outcomes throughout the Hartford Healthcare system.

Outpatient Dialysis Unit

The Hospital of Central Connecticut's outpatient Dialysis Unit is staffed by nephrologists, nurses, a dietitian, social worker and other healthcare professionals.

The hospital also provides services to patients who are on peritoneal dialysis at home or in an extended-care facility.

Additional Services

Besides dialysis, the unit offers plasmapheresis, a specialized procedure that lowers the amount of plasma in the blood to treat blood disorders.

Along with medical care, the hospital's Dialysis Unit provides support services, including an individualized patient education program and a renal patient support group. A community-wide pre-dialysis education program gives patients and their family members peace of mind before they begin treatment.
