Adult Volunteer Opportunities

Our public relations representatives! Volunteers meet and greet the public as they enter the Hospital of Central Connecticut. They provide escorting and wayfinding services, as well as wheelchair assistance. Volunteers also support the Information Desk Receptionists by answering the phones and providing patient location. Must be friendly and outgoing with excellent communication skills; able to push wheelchairs.

Book Cart Volunteer

mornings, afternoons, evenings, including weekends
Visit with our in-patients, offering them books or magazines for their reading pleasure at no charge; Take the time to visit, provide emotional support and friendly conversation. Volunteers also check bed alarms and ensure safety measures are in place for those patients at-risk for falls. Must have excellent communication skills and be good listeners.

Cancer Center Receptionist Volunteers

Soon to open in March 2015, The Hospital of Central Connecticut is proud of our new Cancer Center in Plainville! Volunteers are needed at the reception desk to meet and greet patients and family members and assist wherever needed. Volunteers also will provide clerical support such as copying and faxing for the various services located in the Cancer Center.

Cardiology Reception Volunteers

weekday mornings, afternoons
Assist the staff in this very busy and newly expanded outpatient unit by greeting patients and family members, ensuring they check in for their appointments, initiating friendly conversation in the reception area and escorting them to their appointment when called. Volunteers contribute to the smooth flow and function of this unit by assisting customers and provide support wherever needed.

Desk Receptionists

ASU, ICU, MAIN O.R. Waiting Areas – weekday mornings and afternoons
Assist the staff in these very busy departments by answering phones, greeting patients as they check in for appointments and/or provide up to date information for family members, assist customers with wayfinding and running errands for staff. Must be people-oriented with excellent verbal communication skills.

Gift Shop Volunteers

If you enjoy working in a lovely boutique environment and assisting customers find the perfect gift, this is the place for you! Our Gift Shops at the New Britain campus and the Bradley campus in Southington are supported by the Auxiliary and is a one of their biggest fund-raisers for our hospitals. Openings exist in all locations including the new Cancer Center on the New Britain/Plainville line opening soon!
