New Britain General Campus Auxiliary

The New Britain General Campus Auxiliary meets the second Tuesday of every month and holds its annual meeting in November.

The New Britain Auxiliary has adopted a Strategic Plan that provides a road map for our goals and development. We have established the following committees: Image, Website Development, Education, Membership and Presidents' Council.

Bradley Memorial Campus Auxiliary

The Bradley Memorial campus Auxiliary board of directors meets the second Monday of the month at 7:00 PM at the Bradley Memorial Campus, conference room A.

Joint Meeting

Both campus auxiliaries hold a joint annual meeting in November.

Scholarships

Auxiliary Scholarship

The Auxiliary at The Hospital of Central Connecticut (HOCC), New Britain campus, has established a $1,000 Scholarship for high school seniors pursuing education in a health-care related field.

Our Auxiliary is one of the oldest in the United States. It was organized in 1899 by local women and was first called “The Women’s Hospital Board” – known today as The Auxiliary at The Hospital of Central Connecticut, New Britain campus.

The Auxiliary continues as a viable part of the fabric of HOCC. Two major fundraisers are held, a Golf Tournament and the Crysanthemum Ball, with each one targeted to support major gifts to the hospital. Two Auxiliary run Gift Shops, “The Wishing Well” at the New Britain campus and “Simple Comforts” at the Cancer Institute, add to the monies the Auxiliary can support.

Joan Barton Scholarship

Joan Barton was a member in good standing in the HOCC Auxiliary for several years. She was bright, caring and very hardworking.

While married with three children, she pursued a degree in Speech Therapy. Joan worked in the Berlin Public School system. Later on she went on to earn a Master’s Degree in Social Work. She shared her new learnings in many settings where she was totally invested in her patients and able to help so many. Joan Barton was loved by all!

This $1,000 scholarship is for High School Seniors pursuing education in Mental Health/Social Work field.

Kathleen E. Boudreau Scholarship

Kathleen Ebbit Boudreau was born in Ireland in 1919 and grew up in Long Island, New York. She married I.G. “Mike” Boudreau and had twin daughters (Marleen and Michele) before relocating to New Britain. Kathleen completed her LPN degree at Hartford Hospital and worked in New Britain convalescent homes for several years. Kathleen volunteered at New Britain General Hospital during the 1970’s and 1980’s.

In addition to her love of children, cooking, sewing and reading were life-long hobbies. She devoted her life to caring for others, exhibiting her deep empathy for those who were ill or in distress.

It is in her memory that her daughter, Marleen Boudreau Flory of St. Peters Minnesota, established this $1,000 scholarship through The Hospital of Central Connecticut at New Britain General Auxiliary.

Phyllis Visnauskas Scholarship

Phyllis Visnauskas was a long-time volunteer at The Hospital of Central Connecticut as well as in the greater New Britain community.

This $1,000 scholarship is for High School Seniors with an interest in the healthcare field and a history of volunteerism.

Phyllis taught nursing students at New Britain High School, served as President of the Board of CCARC, Treasurer of the New Britain Women’s Club, and was a member of the Women’s Committee of the New Britain Museum of American Art. She also was involved with the Suburban Women’s Club and the Junior League of New Britain. Phyllis began volunteering at the Hospital (New Britain General) in 1981. Before she passed away, she had volunteered for 39 years/6,000 hours. She was a member of The Hospital of Central Connecticut Auxiliary Board and served as President, Treasurer, and Gift Shop volunteer and welcomed patients, family members and visitors while volunteering at the front desk. She was always with a smile and commitment to volunteerism.
