Bunnies for Hunnies

In gratitude for the care they received when their babies were born, the Vass family collects stuffed rabbits, as part of their “Bunnies for Hunnies” project, to share with other families at area hospitals and community organizations. The stop at The Hospital of Central Connecticut’s NICU was especially emotional, as it was here that Julianna and Elaina were delivered six weeks early, spending two weeks in the NICU. Suzy and her family will always remember the little stuffed lambs that were given to the girls during their stay.

Chris Kelly Open for Cancer Research

The Chris Kelly Open tournament is held each year in memory of Chris and his mother, Lorraine, and their courageous battles with cancer. All proceeds go to the cancer research funds of the UCONN Medical Center and The Hospital of Central Connecticut.

Petit Family Foundation and Michaela’s Garden Project

In 2015, the Petit Family Foundation pledged a gift to the Hartford HealthCare Cancer Institute at the Hospital of Central Connecticut. Since that time, Dr. William Petit, Jr, members of the Petit Family Foundation and employees at The Hospital of Central Connecticut team up to plant clusters of Four O’Clock flowers in honor of Michaela, Dr. Petit’s daughter. Once weather permits, Michaela’s favorite flowers are planted annually in the Healing Garden at the Cancer Institute for patients to enjoy.

In conjunction with Michaela’s Garden Project, the Foundation raises funds to help promote youth participation in community services, the education of young people, especially women in the sciences; to improve the lives of those af¬fected by chronic illnesses; and to support efforts to protect and help those affected by violence.

You Can Love Life

You Can Love Life, a local non-profit organization from Berlin Connecticut, made a generous donation of gift cards to the Hartford HealthCare Cancer Institute at The Hospital of Central Connecticut. The gift cards will be given, as an unexpected gesture and gift, to cancer patients undergoing treatment. Spreading kindness and joy, You Can Love Life hopes to encourage patients to take some time out for themselves and enjoy the little things in life; watch a movie, go out to dinner, or go shopping for something just for them.
