Hospital offering free cancer transitions program

The Hospital of Central Connecticut is offering a free four-week cancer transitions program, A Guide to Life after Treatment, beginning Thursday, May 7. The programs will be held Thursdays, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., at the Hartford HealthCare Cancer Institute at The Hospital of Central Connecticut, Conference Room C, 183 North Mountain Road, New Britain. A free healthy dinner will be served.
This educational series is open to all cancer patients and survivors who have recently completed treatment. Patients may still be undergoing hormone therapy. Sessions are:
- May 7: What is a Survivor? with Noa Mencher, RN, and Alicia Gadzinski, RN; and Financial/Emotional Aspects of Survivorship with Pastor Will Baumgartner and Sarah Benham, MSW, LCSW.
- May 14: Nutrition and Exercise for a Healthy Survivorship with Ruth Satterberg, OT, and Tom Pare, PT; and Nutrition after Cancer with May Harter, RD.
- May 21: Exploring Complementary Therapies – Craniosacral Therapy with Tom Pare, PT; and Reiki and Guided Imagery with Beverly Vesce.
May 28: Long-Term Medical Management for Cancer Survivors, breast cancer with Dr. Vipra Sharma; and Break Out Sessions with Dr. Wylie Hosmer.
Each program features a light dinner and a presentation, time for questions and answers, discussion and free literature. The series is designed to encourage cancer survivors to take a proactive role in their overall care and well-being by building healthy habits, connecting with continued support, and finding a more confident, active voice.
