Healthy Family FunFest features fun for children

February 03, 2015

Children of all ages will be joining in the excitement at the Healthy Family FunFest set for Sunday, Feb. 22, 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The event, now in its sixth year, will feature a dedicated section just for kids and families with interactive activities demonstrating that healthy living is fun and can be a way of life. The Healthy Family FunFest is free and will be held at the Aqua Turf Club, 556 Mulberry St., in the Plantsville section of Southington.

The Healthy Family FunFest provides a great opportunity for families to share time together, building memories and having fun.

Organizers say there will be a wide range of activities for every age such as a gymnastics obstacle course, inflatable skee ball, mini basketball hoop, moon bounce, tough man obstacle course, bean bag toss in hula hoops, basketball challenges, gladiator dodge ball and carnival crafts. A favorite with kids, Valentine the Clown, will be on hand and there will be balloon animals and face painting. Activities geared for “tweens” and teens include clocking their throwing speed with a radar gun, minute-to-win-it competitions, penny drop, cornhole challenge and teambuilding exercises. There will also be a special area just for the littlest members of the family.

Southington-Cheshire Community YMCA staff and volunteers from STEPS, a Southington community coalition with a mission aimed at growing great kids, will staff the young people’s area. In addition, the Southington Police Department will be on site conducting child car safety seat checks. Vision screening, sponsored by the Lions Club, will be available for youngsters ages 6 months to 6 years old.

This event is presented by the Southington-Cheshire Community YMCA, Central Connecticut Senior Health Services and The Hospital of Central Connecticut at Bradley Memorial campus. Event champion sponsors include Health New England, Bradley H. Barnes & Leila U. Barnes Memorial Trust at Main Street Community Foundation, Bristol Press, Connecticut, Prime Time and New Britain Herald.

Non-perishable food items are welcome for Southington’s residents in need.
