Feb. 22 Healthy Family FunFest to include health screenings

 A fun-filled family event with several health screenings as well as health information and demonstrations is planned for Sunday, Feb. 22 at this year’s free Healthy Family FunFest.

The annual event, from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. will be held at the Aqua Turf Club, 556 Mulberry St., Plantsville. Shuttle rides will be available for seniors from the Calendar House at 388 Pleasant St., Southington from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

This marks the sixth Healthy Family FunFest, which last year attracted about 3,000 attendees. Living a healthy lifestyle is the theme for this year’s event to include health screenings, with these offered for free:

  • Balance
  • Bone density
  • Vitamin D
  • Blood glucose and cholesterol
  • Blood pressure
  • Mental health (in Healthy Minds section of event)
  • Vision for children age 6 months to 6 years old

Also on site will be a mobile mammography unit. Women wishing to receive mammograms must be over 40 years old, have no current breast problems and no mammogram within the last year. An insurance card and photo ID will be requested; funds are available to assist uninsured. A limited number of free mammograms will be offered.

Living a healthy lifestyle is the theme for this year’s event that will feature exhibits and vendors focused on healthy living, education and green initiatives. Healthy Family FunFest will include wellness tips from experts on a variety of topics including eating right and exercise; radio personalities Renee DiNino and Cory Myers; Dave Caperton, an award-winning educator, performance consultant, stand-up comedian and writer; entertainment and demonstrations; a kids' section; healthy aging; as well as food samples, free giveaways, and contests and challenges.

Non-perishable food items will be accepted for Southington’s neighbors in need.

Healthy Family FunFest is presented by Central Connecticut Senior Health Services, the Southington-Cheshire Community YMCA and The Hospital of Central Connecticut at Bradley Memorial.
