Feb. 22 Healthy Family FunFest on track, regardless of weather

Organizers of Sunday’s free Healthy Family FunFest announced this week that the event on Sunday, Feb. 22 will be held regardless of weather. The festival, for people of all ages, will focus on healthy living in body and mind, education and green initiatives. Now in its sixth year, the Healthy Family FunFest will be held 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., at the Aqua Turf Club, 556 Mulberry St., in the Plantsville section of Southington. The event will feature:
- Information and wellness tips on health issues including eating right and exercise;
- Free health screenings including balance, bone density, blood glucose and cholesterol, blood pressure, mental health and vision for children ages 6 months to 6 years old;
- Entertainment and demonstrations;
- A kids’ section with games, challenges and competitions targeted to various age groups – courtesy of the Southington-Cheshire Community YMCA;
- Aging Well, focused on healthful senior living for the older population;
- Healthy Minds section;
- Radio personalities Renee DiNino and Cory Myers;
- Dave Caperton, award-winning educator, stand-up comedian and writer;
- Car safety seat checks, Amber Alert;
- Free giveaways, food samples, contests and challenges.
Last year, more than 3,000 people attended to learn how to improve their quality of life through healthy living. Shuttle rides for seniors will be available from the Calendar House, 388 Pleasant St., Southington, from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., courtesy of Mulberry Gardens of Southington.
Non-perishable food items will be accepted for Southington’s neighbors in need. Healthy Family FunFest is presented by Central Connecticut Senior Health Services, the Southington-Cheshire Community YMCA and The Hospital of Central Connecticut at Bradley Memorial. Main sponsors include Health New England, Bradley H. Barnes & Leila U. Barnes Memorial Trust at Main Street Community Foundation, Bristol Press, Connecticut Prime Time and New Britain Herald.
