Support program for young mothers to celebrate 20th anniversary

New Britain [September 07 2006] - The Mothers Offering Mothers Support (M.O.M.S.) Program at New Britain General Hospital will celebrate its 20th anniversary Sept. 12 at the hospital.

M.O.M.S. is a support group for pregnant or parenting mothers ages 21 or younger from throughout the New Britain area. Current and former M.O.M.S. participants and program volunteers will come together to share stories and celebrate accomplishments. The event will include a dinner, raffle, recognition and other activities. State Sen. Donald J. DeFronzo and New Britain General Hospital President Laurence A. Tanner will speak.

The M.O.M.S. program is centered on the belief that young parents can be successful, learn, support one another and make informed decisions. The group offers a fun, relaxed atmosphere that includes discussions, activities, guest speakers and field trips.

M.O.M.S. groups are led by peer facilitators – women who were young mothers themselves and understand the fears and questions faced by young parents or parents-to-be.

Date: Tues., Sept. 12

Time: 5 p.m.

Place: Cafeteria, New Britain General Hospital
