Hospital ICU and Respiratory Chief is Appointed Professor

Michael J. McNamee, MD, FCCP, FAARC, has been promoted to professor of clinical medicine at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine. McNamee is director of the Intensive Care Unit and Pulmonary Medicine, and a senior attending physician at New Britain General Hospital. McNamee also serves as chairman of the New Britain General Hospital’s Institutional Ethics and Critical Care Committees. He is also a clinical associate at the University of Connecticut School of Nursing and medical director of the undergraduate program in respiratory care at Quinnipiac University.
McNamee is the Hospital’s site director at for trainees from the University of Connecticut, including fellows and medical students in pulmonary/critical care medicine and residents rotating in ICU from primary care internal medicine, orthopedic surgery, and obstetrics/gynecology.
McNamee came to New Britain General in 1980 following his medical training at Fordham University, Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, and the University of Pittsburgh. He was named a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians in 1987. He has served as Visiting Lecturer at a variety of universities, colleges, and hospitals throughout Connecticut.
McNamee has served as the President of the Connecticut Thoracic Society and as the initial Chairman of its Critical Care section. In addition, among Dr. McNamee’s many other appointments and honors, in 2002 he was one of two physicians in the nation awarded Fellowship in the American Association of Respiratory Care for contributions to that field.
McNamee resides with his wife, Anne, in West Hartford, where they raised their six children.
