Local man organizes cancer center fundraiser to honor his loved ones, help others
New Britain [August 24 2006] -
Frank Bedrosian of New Britain has organized a pig roast to raise money for New Britain General Hospital’s George Bray Cancer Center and honor loved ones touched by the disease.
The event, to feature food, a band, prizes and a cash bar, will be Saturday, Sept. 16, 1-8 p.m. at the Spartans AC Hall, 191 High Road, Kensington. A $20 donation is requested. For information or to purchase tickets, call Bedrosian, (860) 223-0614.
Bedrosian hopes to raise $2,500 to $3,000 for the Cancer Center, where one of his loved ones is being treated for lung and brain cancer. Two of his family members have also battled cancer in the past – one died of brain cancer; the other is a breast cancer survivor.
“When people close to you get cancer you realize how difficult it is,” Bedrosian said. “You want to do something to help them – and others who are struggling with this.”
Area residents and business have donated raffle prizes for the pig roast, including restaurant gift certificates, concert and New Britain Rock Cats tickets and other items.
New Britain General’s George Bray Cancer Center provides comprehensive, advanced cancer care through its infusion (chemo) therapy unit, inpatient oncology unit and the American Savings Foundation Radiation Oncology Treatment Center.
