Hospital Chief of Staff Re-elected for Fourth Term
New Britain [July 12 2006] -
Robert A. Lapkin, M.D., has been re-elected by physicians at New Britain General Hospital to serve a fourth term as the hospital’s chief of staff. A senior attending physician at the hospital for 31 years, Dr. Lapkin is also chief of nephrology and medical director for the Dialysis Unit. He was first elected chief of staff in 1997.
Dr. Lapkin received his medical degree at New York Medical College in 1968. He completed his internship and residency in internal medicine, and a fellowship in nephrology at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. During the course of his medical training, he served for two years as Lieutenant Commander at the United States Naval Hospital at Camp LeJeune, NC.
Among his hospital appointments, Dr. Lapkin also serves as a member of the board of directors, and as chairman of the Staff Executive Committee. An influential educator, he lectures on renal physiology for residents in the Department of Medicine and presents at the Department of Medicine grand rounds.
Along with his roles at NBGH, Dr. Lapkin acts as a consulting nephrologist for several area hospitals.
Dr. Lapkin is a resident of West Hartford.
