Hospital honored for promoting breastfeeding
New Britain [October 12 2012] -
The Connecticut Breastfeeding Coalition on Oct. 9 honored The Hospital of Central Connecticut (HOCC) for its participation in the Connecticut Breastfeeding Initiative and its work toward achieving Baby-Friendly designation.
At its statewide conference in Cromwell, the coalition presented HOCC with a Healthcare award for its contributions to the health and well-being of Connecticut’s mothers and children. Sharon Telford, R.N., and Patricia Alfieri, R.N., HOCC's International Board Certified Lactation Consultants, accepted the award.
Telford and Alfieri have been leading HOCC’s effort to achieve Baby-Friendly designation, a prestigious honor recognizing world-class maternity care. The extensive, multi-year effort started at HOCC in 2010 and includes staff training, policies, patient education and numerous other projects designed to encourage and support breastfeeding.
In addition to International Board Certified Lactation Consultants, HOCC offers a breastfeeding support group and other programs and services
to help babies get a healthy start.
