Hospital of Central Connecticut honors nurses

New Britain [May 23 2012] - The Hospital of Central Connecticut honored two nurses at a special awards ceremony May 8 at the New Britain General campus.

Berlin resident Natalie Cooper, R.N., B.S.N., a nurse in the oncology unit, received the Viola Larson Memorial Award. Granby resident Bettina Magliato M.S., R.N., wound care specialist, received the Excellence in Patient Safety Award.

Cooper was recognized for her clinical expertise, leadership, professional development and compassion, and respect for patients and co-workers.

“Natalie builds a trusting relationship and creates a healing environment for all the patients under her care,” her nominators wrote. “She exhibits great initiative, professionalism and focus.”

Cooper was one of 11 nominees for the award, named for the hospital’s former vice president of nursing. Other nominees were R.N.s Meghan Brennan, Rebekah DiLernia, Anna Starodaj, Daisy Brown, Erin Donohue, Laura Biegen, Ariel Herron, Claudia Stancavage and Deborah Staszewski; and APRN Kathryn Tierney.

Magliato was honored for her efforts to improve safety, particularly through her work leading the hospital’s Pressure Ulcer Prevention Committee.

“She utilizes the newest techniques and works diligently on promoting new initiatives,” her nominators wrote.
