Behavioral health specialist joins New Britain General Hospital

Sharon Clayman, Psy.D., of Manchester has joined New Britain General Hospital’s Behavioral Health Department as a behavioral health specialist.
Dr. Clayman and Robert Muro, Ph.D. will provide psychological assessment and consultation services for the hospital’s Weigh Your Options Clinical Weight Loss Center, including psychological evaluations for weight-loss (bariatric) surgery. Weigh Your Options offers nutrition counseling, supervised exercise, behavioral intervention counseling, long-term weight-loss strategies, bariatric surgery and other services.
Dr. Clayman will also provide consultation to other hospital departments, including the Joslin Diabetes Center and Infectious Diseases. In addition, she will provide adult outpatient psychotherapy for the Community Health Center of New Britain.
Before joining New Britain General, Dr. Clayman was a post-doctoral fellow at the Counseling Center at Trinity College in Hartford. Prior to that, she was a post-doctoral fellow at McLean Hospital’s Obsessive Compulsive Disorders Institute in Belmont, Mass.
Dr. Clayman speaks English and Spanish and has experience in individual and group therapy, working with patients with eating disorders, affective disorders and other issues.
She earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology and French from the University of Vermont and her doctorate of psychology from the Virginia Consortium Program in Clinical Psychology.
