Hospital honors outstanding nurse mentors
New Britain [May 12 2010] -
At a May 10 ceremony, two Hospital of Central Connecticut nurses received Outstanding Nurse Preceptor Awards for demonstrating clinical expertise and serving as role models, team players, unit leaders and teachers.
Jenn Warren, a registered nurse on the Bradley Memorial campus medical surgical units, and Renee Walendziak, a registered nurse on the New Britain General campus psychiatric unit, were nominated by their colleagues for the annual award, which honors nurses who make a difference on their unit and a distinct impact on the nurses they mentor.
Warren’s nominators wrote that she works closely with graduate nurses as well as patients, their families and nursing technicians. “Jenn has become the go-to person for the younger, less-experienced staff and willingly works to assist them with developing skills,” wrote Cherry Karl, clinical nurse specialist, and Eileen Leahy, director of Med/Surg Nursing and the ICU.
Walendziak was nominated by Alyson Rolando, R.N., who wrote, “She is patient and professional when it comes to training new staff. She encourages them to think on their own but doesn’t make the new staff feel uncomfortable or inadequate about asking questions… staff have found her to be a valuable and outstanding resource to go to.”
Congratulations to the other Outstanding Nurse Preceptor nominees, R.N.s: Amy Bessette, Total Joint Unit; and Elizabeth Brusznicki, Leslie Mischke and Marilyn Robidoux, Emergency Department.
