Inspiration, laughs part of New Britain General Cancer Survivors Day program
New Britain [May 25 2006] -
Two Southington women and a breast cancer survivor and comedienne will share their stories with other former cancer patients from throughout the region at a June 4 Cancer Survivors Day celebration sponsored by New Britain General Hospital’s George Bray Cancer Center.
More than 500 people, including survivors, their loved ones and medical professionals are expected to attend the 14th annual Survivors Day gathering, “Celebrate Life: Going for the Gold!”
The event will include talks by Southington residents Loretta Putala, a colorectal cancer survivor, and Audrey Zack, who cared for a loved one with cancer. Breast cancer survivor and comedienne Sheila Van Dyke, a former Terryville, Conn. resident, will share some laughs with the group. The event will close with a special medal recognition ceremony for survivors and caregivers.
New Britain General Hospital and the George Bray Cancer Center treat more than 800 cancer patients annually, offering diagnostic services, inpatient care and outpatient radiation therapy and infusion therapy. The Center also offers support groups for patients and families, nutritional counseling, educational programs, a cancer resource library, pastoral care and more.
