Tennis Tournament Benefits Children’s Programs
New Britain [August 17 2007] -
More than 90 young people and adults were scheduled to participate in the 28th annual Children’s Charities Tennis Classic, Aug. 17-19 at Walnut Hill Park in New Britain.
The event is expected to raise more than $6,000 for The Hospital of Central Connecticut’s youngest patients. Tournament participants include players ages 8-25 playing singles and doubles matches and adults playing singles matches. All proceeds from entry fees will be donated to:
• The Pedi-Play and Read program, which gives age-appropriate toys, games and books to young patients staying in the hospital.
• The Reach Out and Read and Books for Babies programs, which give beginning reading books to little patients and their parents who otherwise could not afford them.
• Special ceiling tiles for the hospital’s pediatric outpatient clinic with cheery scenes designed to help put children receiving medical treatment at ease.
For the past 28 years, the Children’s Charities Tennis Classic has drawn young people and adults from throughout Central Connecticut and raised nearly $100,000 for hospital children’s programs.
