Annual Chrysanthemum Ball Fundraiser Scheduled
New Britain [October 16 2006] -
The Annual Chrysanthemum Ball for the benefit of The Hospital of Central Connecticut will be held on Saturday, Nov. 4 at the Aqua Turf Club in Southington. Sponsored by the Hospital Auxiliary, this festive event includes a delicious dinner, dancing to the top 40 music of “Prelude,” and a silent auction.(Dress is black tie optional.) The co-chairs of this year’s event are Lisa King and Annette Salina.
Through this and other fundraising efforts, the Auxiliary has contributed more than $3.4 million to the Hospital’s New Britain campus.
The proceeds of the 2006 Ball will again be dedicated to fulfilling the organization’s 5-year $1 million pledge to support the new cardiac catheterization and interventional radiology suite, which went online in late 2005. The suite includes a state-of-the-art imaging unit dedicated to cardiology, and a second unit dedicated to interventional radiology. The equipment provides the necessary tools to perform primary angioplasty — an emergency, life-saving procedure for those experiencing a heart attack. Close to 100 primary angioplasties have now been performed in the cardiac catheterization lab.
The Chrysanthemum Ball was first held in 1904 by the New Britain General Hospital Auxiliary. Over the years, proceeds from the ball have supported many projects at New Britain General, now The Hospital of Central Connecticut. In 1952, the Auxiliary bought its first major piece of equipment, an x-ray therapy machine.
