For older adults, anxiety, depression, stress and other conditions can be compounded by age-related issues like the deaths of loved ones, declining physical health and a loss of independence.
The Hospital of Central Connecticut's Older Adult Programs provide specialized treatment for people 55 and older with various psychiatric diagnoses, including:
- Chronic mental illness
- Age-related stresses
The Older Adult Programs are not equipped to treat patients with a primary diagnosis of dementia, but can treat older adults experiencing stress in caring for a loved one with dementia.
- Medication and counseling
- Therapy groups, including men's and women's groups
- Couples therapy
- An Intensive Outpatient Program for patients needing more frequent or intensive therapy
- Individual therapy
Programs are staffed by a psychiatrist and licensed clinical social workers.
Most major insurances, Medicare, Medicaid and SAGA are accepted. Patients without coverage may apply to the hospital's free bed/charity care program.
Van service is available for participants in New Britain and surrounding towns who have no other means of transportation.
